Freedom: the bedrock of a fairer world

I believe that a refreshed and shared sense of idealism is crucial for an equitable and sustainable world. This journey towards a better future begins with understanding and upholding the true meaning of freedom, which for me, is inextricably linked to human rights and equality.

Human rights at the core

Human rights must be central to our world order. At every societal level, we must affirm that universal human rights will guide our laws, policies, and lives. This commitment is essential for addressing critical issues facing our communities and the planet.

Connecting freedom to justice

My vision of freedom is directly connected to climate justice, Indigenous treaty rights, combating racism, advancing gender equality, ending violence against Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people, internet governance, and protecting refugees. Ultimately, achieving a fair and sustainable world depends on shared struggles, rooted in the promise of equality.

Equality: the foundation of true freedom

If we do not secure the basic promise of equality, nothing else follows. Gender equality, racial equality, social equality, equality of all abilities, and full, intersectional equality are not just ideals, but necessities. Without equality, free expression is meaningless, education an illusion, healthcare broken, and life, liberty, and security of the person fragile and tenuous. Every time we assess challenges or advance campaigns, equality (freedom) must be our starting point.
