Pelham's recreational successes
Pelham stands as a proud golf destination, a true recreational success story. Our community enjoys exceptional facilities that attract visitors and provide residents with prime opportunities for sport and leisure. We are committed to maintaining and enhancing these beloved recreational spaces for all to enjoy.
Connecting our community through trails
I am dedicated to creating safe and accessible trail connections that link our communities. During my term on Council, we secured access to the Steve Bauer Trail, paved the trail, and we plow the snow in the winter. Another key initiative includes establishing a safe trail connection between Fonthill and Fenwick. I also aim to complete the trail loop through the Fonthill Lions to the railway spur trail, providing continuous pathways for walking, cycling, and exploring our beautiful surroundings.
Expanding parkland and sports facilities
My plans include adding another full-scale and capable soccer field to meet the growing demand for sports facilities. We are also committed to ensuring the future of more parkland and playing fields for East Fenwick. I firmly believe in protecting our green spaces and oppose trading parklands for cash with developers.
The North Pelham Park multi purpose pad has been sadly neglected. I will advocate for improvements to the park and the multi purpose area, in particular. For the sake of equitable access, I will advocate for accessible washrooms so that the North Pelham Park can be used like every other park.
Promoting sustainable land use with ALUS
I actively promote joining Alternate Land Use Systems (ALUS) to promote the use of idle lands for environmental benefits. This initiative aims to increase forest cover, create biodiversity, and establish wildlife corridors, while also providing a small rental income to participating property owners. It’s a win-win for our environment and our community.
Pelham and the Niagara Geopark
The Niagara Trail Network project offers a unique opportunity to enhance our region's appeal by enabling residents and visitors alike to craft customized "experiences" utilizing the diverse recreational trails that our area boasts. I firmly believe this endeavour will translate into tangible benefits for our local sustainable businesses, as encouraging longer stays and increased spending year-round. Our existing high-quality trail infrastructure serves as an excellent foundation for connecting visitors with rich and unforgettable experiences, further solidifying the appeal of our region.
In this regard, the (Aspiring UNESCO) Niagara Geopark is the ideal central entity to serve as the "umbrella" organization, effectively bringing together and connecting all trail "custodians" in a neutral, apolitical, and professional manner. I appreciate the Geopark's significant capacity to oversee and facilitate this project, ensuring its success and sustainable growth.
The Town of Pelham is enthusiastic about the opportunity to actively participate as committed stakeholders in the Niagara Trail Network project. Pelham collaborates the Niagara Trail Network and the Niagara Geopark closely with the Geopark and other key stakeholders to bring this vision to fruition.
