The next chapter for our community
A community that reads is a community that thinks, empathizes, and thrives. Here in Fonthill, we already have the foundation with the Coyne Family Branch at the centre of it all. As the branch undergoes renovation, we are preparing a deliberate strategy to turn reading into a shared cultural pillar across Pelham.

The public library as our vibrant community hub
Free public libraries remain the great equalizer of a democratic society, open to every neighbour regardless of income. Our plan centres on universal access and active programming: free borrowing, cutting-edge digital resources, lively book clubs, and children's story sessions that keep literacy visible, joyful, and welcoming.

Inspiring young minds through high-interest choice
Readers are not made by accident; they are nurtured through genuine engagement. In our schools, we advocate for pairing students with texts that truly captivate them—challenging young minds without frustrating them. When a student finds the right book, they build critical thinking and become a committed reader for life.

Weaving shared culture into everyday neighbourhood life
Solitary reading transforms into shared strength when woven into community life. By removing every barrier—keeping spaces free, walkable, and central—we invite local service groups, local businesses, and faith communities to build author events and book discussions into the civic fabric of Ward 1.
"A community that reads is a community that thinks, empathizes, and thrives. Readers build stronger attention spans, sharper communication, and deeper understanding—the foundations of a healthy democracy and a competitive economy."
